Kourtney Kardashian shines in a Gert-Johan Coetzee original.
Gert-Johan Coetzee, graduate student from the North West School of Design made it big. He designed a dress for Kourtney Kardashian that she wore to the “People’s Choice Awards 2011” in Los Angeles … The Beeld newspaper of 7 January 2011 takes it further.
Klerksdorp 2011 Vukani finalist – Ilze Delport
Ilze Delport, (2nd year student) has been selected as nationwide finalist for the Vukani / SAFDA awards. Last year 2010, saw three nationwide finalists from North West School of Design, including the “High Fashion Winner 2010.” The Klerksdorp Record reports on the story.
Thabo wins bursary!
Gert-Johan Coetzee, does something for the fashion industry. After receiving numerous applications, Gert-Johan awards bursary to Thabo Makhuzeni from Stilfontein. The Klerksdorp Record reports on this in their article, “following in the footsteps of his fashion idol.” This bursary entitles the winner, Thabo to study Clothing Design at the very same college where he obtained his diploma way back in 2005.
Anel’s design in Sunday Independent
Anel Botha, graduate student of NWSD, graduating class of 2005&2006 design display proudly at the J&B Met 2011, where she walks away with 4th prize in the “Most Elegantly themed Couple” 2010, she won the Most Elegantly Themed Couple.
Yolande’s design in Sarie magazine.
Yolande Maree, graduate student of class of 2009&2010 design gets displayed in the Sarie magazine of February 2011. This was one of her designs that were showcased at the Cape Town Fashion Week last year, when she was a nationwide Foschini Young Designer finalist.

The Klerksdorp Record places article, “top honours for graduate” in their 10 February 2011 issue, whereby Riana Engela, graduate student, class of 2009&2010 receives a huge accolade, whereby she wins all the trophies of the North West School of Design at her Graduation Ceremony.

Skouspel Plus chooses NWSD
Three graduate students, of North West School of Design were chosen by the stylist of Skouspel Plus, Michael Veldsman. These students include: Althea van der Linde (Designer of the Year 2010), Kobus Rautenbach (trainee lecturer at NWSD) and Anel Botha (Designer of the Year 2006). These three designers will be designing garments, for internationally acclaimed Grammy winner, Jennifer Jones, idols finalist 2002, Bianca le Grange as well as “The Flooze” from the TV programme, 7e Laan. These garments will be showcased at the Skouspel Plus in Cape Town.
Co-incidentally, two graduates were also chosen in 2010 to dress some of SA’s cream of the music industry.

Kobus shines in the Potchefstroom Herald
Graduate student, class of 2008 &2009, Kobus Rautenbach, now trainee lecturer at North West School of Design receives coverage that he and some of his graduate students form NWSD will be dressing the cream of the SA music industry, including Jennifer Jones and Bianca Le Grange. This is for the Skouspel Plus programme which will be held in Cape Town.

Gert-Johan Coetzee, features in April edition of Sarie women’s magazine, in their regular article, “hoe het jy gevoel…” This is an regular article, whereby the magazine interviews famous SA people on various aspects of their life, specifically, “how did they feel” at a certain moment in time, when “something” important happened to them.
The Photography students of the North West School of Design, hosts yet another stunning exhibition on the 24th of March 2011 at the Klerksdorp Museum. Some students were awarded that evening with special prizes

Gert-Johan Coetzee (graduate from North West School of Design) gets approached by Volvo to help design accessories which will be available from 1 June 2011.

Music group, Jamali features, Gert-Johan in their latest music video, “Toxic Fun”. Gert-Johan Coetzee also designed their outfits for their latest music video.

The “Pols” insert in the Beeld newspaper features designs of SA’s designer that took part in SA Fashion Week, and also feature design of graduate student, Gert-Johan Coetzee.

Gert-Johan Coetzee, graduate from North West School of Design is selected as finalist for the Melange Fashion Ambassador Award in san Francisco, USA. The Klerksdorp Reconr reports on his success and the story behind the story.
Vodacom Durban July semi-finalists.
Two second year students, Ilze Delport and Stiena Hoffmann, as well as third year student, Melanie Grobler gets selected as Vodacom Durban July semi-finalists for their Young Designer completion. The judging will take place on 26 May 2011 in Bloemfontein. Semi-finalist, Stiena Hoffmann was also selected as semi-finalist in 2010.
Ilze in Herald
Ilze Delport (second year student of NWSD) appears in Heilbron Herald as being chosen as one of three students from North West School of Design that has been selected as Vodacom Durban July semi-finalists. Ilze originally hails from Heilbron.
Advertising Fashion Show 2011 – Front page

SAMA Awards 2011 and graduate, Gert-Johan Coetzee
Graduate student, Gert-Johan Coetzee has a tough time at the SAMA Awards 2011, as he had to design nine dresses for Bonoang Matheba, who was the MC. (see article in You magazine, “Seen and Heard”, she looked ravishing no the less. He also designed for Lousie Carver, who made it as one of the “best dressed: according to the people magazine.
Marlene’s book hits the news!
Marlene Oosthuizen, the principal of North West School of Design, released her second book, “The Modern Corsettiere”. This is the second book published by the principal, and this will enable all people to design corsets, using the trusted methods by Marlene. Michelle and Morgan take the crown!
Michelle Lotz is crowned the new miss Klerksdorp for 2011/12. Morgan McBride also was crowned as Miss Klerksdorp Teen 2011/12. Both these stunners are models for North West School of design as well. Congratulations, girls!
Graduate from North West School of Design, Jose de Canha, class of 2002/3 is commissioned by the organizer of Miss Klerksdorp to dress the finalists in stunning evening and casual wear.
“Not horsing around…”
The horse-racing event of the year, Vodacom Durban July 2011 was particularly successful for graduate from North West School of Design, AnelBotha. Anel and her partner, Graham Calver walked away as winner in the Most Striking Couple 2011, and another of her designs, walked always the Winner in the Classic Race day wear. Another design of her, in the Avant Garde category was placed in the Top 10. The local newspaper, The Klerksdorp Record, Beeld and the Daily News reported on this remarkable designer that needs to be reckoned with.
Anel Botha, a graduate from North West School of Design, and designer dressed, Charlize Hogendyk (Elvis Blue’s wife), Alette Winckler (wife of Heinz Winckler), and Bianca le Grange for the You Spectacular which was hosted at Emperor’s Palace. This formidable designer also showcased a range, with the top SA band, the Parlotones as the backdrop. The designer is definitely going places… Watch this spot!
You Spectacular no 2
Gert-Johan Coetzee, graduate designer (class of 2004 / 2005), and SA’s most sought-after designer to date, dresses many A-class celebrities for the You/Huisgenoot SAMA Awards. The You magazine features photographs, of Connie Ferguson in a breathtaking Gert-Johan Coetzee gown, as well as Bonang Matheba, in a Gert-Johan Coetzee original. The photograph with Bonang received 36 000 views on Twitter.

In the September 2011 issue of Get-it magazine, a huge feature about Anel Botha is featured. Anel Botha, graduated from the North West School of Design 2006 as the Designer of the year, and has not looked back since. This formidable designer based in Klerksdorp has established her feet firmly in the fashion industry, as she often dresses famous SA celebrities for red-carpet events, including Bianca le Grange of Idols fame, Roxy Low, as well as Dunay nortje (wife of SA singing sensation – Kurt Darren) but to name a few.
Own the catwalk - NWSD gives away a BURSARY
In the September issue of get-it magazine, the North West School of Design in conjunction with the City Mall Klerksdorp sponsor a course in Part-Time fashion design for one lucky fashionist to the value of R10 000. Great prize for someone who wishes to further their career or start it in the cut=throat world of the fashion industry.
The photography Class of 2011 hosted their photo exhibition on 23 August 2011 at the North West School of Design. Students who complete their photography course must present a portfolio of their best works whereby the will be judged:

Business woman of the year 2011
Marlene oosthuizen, principal of the North West School of Design, has scooped the award, for ‘Business Woman of the year’ , this is the second time that she has won this prestigious award, that is awarded by the Wesvaal Chamber of Business. She aslo won this award in 2002, in she was awarded another award and in 2011 her company, North West School of Design, walked away as the ‘Small Enterprise of the year .’
New course for North West School of Design
The North West School of Design is making their mark in the field of tuition, as they are going to present BA degree in Fashion Management and Communication. The latter is a first for any institute in SA, as it is a whole new course being presented in SA and North West School of Design is the pioneers in this field, yet again! Well done, to North West School of Design.

Morgan MCBride (Currents Miss Klerksdorp Teen 2010 and regular model for North West School of Design –Fashion shows was selected by internationally acclaimed designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee (NWSD-graduate ) as model for his Summer / Spring 2012 collection in Johannesburg.
Graduate, Gert-Johan Coetzee decided to time something back to the community… Gert-Johan Coetzee, acclaimed SA designer decides it is time he rewards a lucky recipient with a bursary to the value of R80 500 at the Graduate, Gert-Johan Coetzee decided to give something back to the community… Gert-Johan Coetzee, acclaimed SA designer decides in Klerksdorp. The institute where this formidable man, received his diploma way back in November 2005.
Graduate Fashion Show 2011
The Portugeuse hall in Klerksdorp hosted the 14th Annual Graduation Fashion Show when the graduating class of 2010 & 2011, presented their Graduation Fashion Show. This was covered in the local newspaper, the Klerksdorp Record.

Visits – Khaya Tshepo
As part of the Aids Awareness Programme to full time students for NWSD, the students visited Khaya Tshepo Home of Hope visited orphans to give them something t smile about.
