February 2009 Glamour magazine – here we come! Gert-Johan Coetzee (Graduate student) class of 2004 & 2005 which launched the label, Diamond Face Couture with socialite, Uyanda Mbuli gets featured in the February issue of Glamour magazine in their article, “Scarlet Fever.” Gert-Johan is one of the most successful graduates of the North West School of Design to date.

March 2009 Photographic Expo #2 The NORTH WEST SCHOOL OF DESIGN¥S very popular part-time course, Photography receives coverage in the Klerksdorp Record. The 2nd Annual Photography Expo was held on the 19th of March 2009 at the Neser Hall at the Klerksdorp Library. All students received their certificates upon the completion of their course. Few students got special commendations namely: • Most Improved Student – Donovan Roets, • Best Still-Life – Adele Pieterse, • Best Portrait – Danielle Faber, • Best Landscape – Lorene du Plessis and • Best Portfolio Collection – Adele Pieterse. April 2009 Opening of the “Pink Lady” in Klerksdorp Graduate student, FX Prins’ designs display proudly in the April 2009 issue of “Get-it” magazine. Models, Bridgette, Chanel and Melissa smile for the camera, at the opening of the “Pink Lady” – the new four star Peermont Hotel built in Klerksdorp.
April 2009 7 Nationwide semi-finalists, for Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award The NORTH WEST SCHOOL OF DESIGN has what it takes. Seven full time Clothing Design and Technology students from the North West School of Design are selected as nationwide semi-finalists for the Vodacom / Durban July Young Designer Awards. Yolande Maree, Nadine Roodt, Rudi Grobler, Lindokuhle Cuba, Sinazo Gulani, Ofelia Andrade and Joani Pieterse are bestowed the honor. June 2009 Janine, just do it! In the latest edition (June 2009) of Get-it magazine, displays human interest article on Janine Myburgh, graduate designer (class of 2007 & 2008). Janine was nationwide African finalist for Vukani 2008, as well as nationwide Winner for the Steinhoff Young Designer Award which was held in November 2008. Good to see the students of NORTH WEST SCHOOL OF DESIGN gracing the local magazines. (See November 2008-3 and November 2008-4.)
August 2009 Miss Klerksdorp 2009 Sponsorship NORTH WEST SCHOOL OF DESIGN –first year design students of 2008 designed corsets for the finalists of Miss Klerksdorp 2009. The winner of Miss Klerksdorp 2009 will win her corset that she wore on the evening of the pageant. Bonita Griessel, new Miss Klerksdorp 2009 wins a corset that was designed by Kobus Rautenbach (current second year student, as well as Bursary Award Winner 2007) from the NORTH WEST SCHOOL OF DESIGN. ![]()

August 2009 Anha K Evening gowns Anha-K couture – (which belongs to José de Canha – Graduate designer 2003 – Designer of the Year 2003, and Anél Botha – Graduate designer 2006 – Designer of the Year 2003) is requested by Klerksdorp Record to dress the finalists in the senior category of the annual Miss Klerksdorp 2009 beauty pageant. Coincidentally, Jose also dressed the winning Miss Klerksdorp 2008. (See September 2008 – Front Page Dress).
September 2009 Face of Rio judge – our own José de Canhar José de Canha, Graduate Designer (class of 2002 & 2003) and well known local fashion designer is requested by Rio Resort and Your City newspaper to judge the “Face of Rio” beauty pageant which was hosted on 12 September 2009 at the Rio Resort in Klerksdorp.
September 2009 Gert-Johan Coetzee and Uyanda Mbuli officially launch, DFC Graduate student, Gert-Johan Coetzee (Designer of the Year 2004) and Uyanda Mbuli launches their first DFC – Diamond Face Couture Shop in the Zone in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The YOU magazine of 17 September 2009 was there to take the photos of Gert-Johan and Uyanda, as well as the guests that attended the opening. ![]() November 2009 Mbuli’s label now goes international The Miss World pageant chose South Africa’s top ten designers to create evening gowns for the miss world Pageant contestants, amongst them were JJ Schoeman, Malcum Kluk, Marc & Michael & Gert-Johan Coetzee (Diamond Face Couture) Gert-Johan designed Dresses for 15 contestants including - our own Miss South-Africa Tatum Keshwar, Miss Italy, Miss France, Miss Finland, Miss England, Miss Scotland, Miss Germany and miss Guatemala.. etc. The theme was "City Of Gold" and the dresses was firstly showcased in Abu Dhabi, and secondly in South Africa at the Miss World top model contest. November 2009 Gert-Johan Finesse dress Gert-Johan Coetzee, (graduate student, class of 2004&2005) sponsors a dress designed by him, for a competition hosted by the Finesse Woman’s Magazine.
November 2009 Neelufer Patel appointed as Specialist Buyer – Edgars Neelufer Patel, graduated at NWSD 2007 has successfully completed the Edgars Graduate program, whereby she was trained on the Edcon systems as buyer. Neelufer was one of 7 applicants who were selected from 800 hopefuls and she has now been appointed as specialist buyer for men¥s accessories. Congratulations Neelufer.
